Book Reviews

Jelly Effect

The Jelly Effect by Andy Bounds

Why the Jelly effect? Most business people say too much irrelevant stuff, hoping that something they say will stick. He compares it to filling a bucket with jelly and flinging it at the other person, hoping some of it will stick, some will but most of it won't - it is inefficient and wastes time. The few insights below can help to make the process of communicating the right messages quickly and effectively seem like a walk in the park.

Key Leraning Points:

  • How to write AFTERS (Benefits)
  • AFTERS that most people want
  • How to create a Winning Pitch
Tycoon

Tycoon By Peter Jones

Peter Jones is a well established businessman with a track record. Like most successful businessmen he has had his business failures, but that all part of the experience. From growing a successful business then losing everything. Going back to work for someone else, then developing a business idea into a vision that had an objective to build a £12m turnover within one year, then exceeding it by £1m. Peter is a role model you may wish to copy from.

Key earning Points:

    1. 10 Golden Rules
    2. Quick appraisal of a business idea
    3. How to make it happen
The Beermat Entrepreneur

The Beermat Entrepreneur by Mike Southern & Chris West

The Beermat Entrepreneur is a brilliant book; I first read it about three years ago after I heard Mike Southern talking on a bonus file from the Millionaire MBA audio series. He spoke about the elevator pitch, mentors and making your first sale and it inspired me to write a coaching module about prototyping your business idea before up scaling. The essence of this is in the book.

Key earning Points:

  • The Entrepreneur and Cornerstones
  • Go to the pub
  • The Beermat Business Plan
  • White Paper

The Ultimate Selling Machine 76

The Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes

Chet Homes is a business growth expert. He visits companies and improves sales and turnover using simple and effective strategies. Many people say this book is about sales, but only two out of the twelve chapters cover sales; the rest is good, honest, common sense. The key to Chet’s success as he say’s is PIG Headed determination, he grabs the bull by the horns and doesn’t let go. He challenges’ the ‘ye buts’ and sticks with the strategy.

Business Stripped Bare

Business Stripped Bare By Richard Branson

Bob Schieffer, the former CBS news anchorman caught Richard Branson by surprise on stage at the Aspen Ideas Festival in 2007 by asking him the question “Why had you gone into business?” Richard just stared at him, and then suddenly realised and said “I had never been interested ‘in business’; I’ve been interested in creating things”

This is the gist of his thinking about business. Business should be something outside of you. It should be something you can stand away from and view. If you can figure this out you too can begin to think more like Richard Branson.
